Hurricane Irma is continuing to tear a deadly path through the Caribbean, causing widespread destruction and reducing buildings to rubble, on a track that could lead to a catastrophic strike on Florida.
Our team is now in the final stages of preparation for a response mission to the Caribbean in the wake of Hurricane Irma, and ahead of Hurricane Jose. We are deploying as part of a joint team with Rescue Global to provide Command, Control, Communications, reconnaissance; needs assessments; medical assistance and inter-agency coordination.
The current situation is that Rescue Global and SARAID has been requested to provide reconnaissance and enabling operations in the Caribbean, primarily focussed around the islands of St Thomas and St John in the US Virgin Islands.
Initially two USAR team members will deploy alongside members of Rescue Global, this will allow them to carry out building damage and medical assessments as well as liaison with UN and partner agencies. The team will depart from Gatwick 1800 on 09/09/2017 and fly to The Virgin Islands.
